Getting to Paris

Paris, central hub of Europe, is a well-served metropolis that guarantees optimal accessibility thanks to its consistently reliable network of transport infrastructures (air, rail and road).

FROM THE AIRPORTS TO THE CITY CENTER

After your arrival at one of Paris’ major airports, CDG airport or Paris Orly airport, or you are within easy reachof teh city centre.

From Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport (CDG)

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport airport is 23 km northeast of the center of Paris. The estimated journey time, by various means of transport, is 45 to 60 minutes. The airport website gives the quickest and most economic route to go to/from the airport.

From Paris Orly airport (ORY)

Paris Orly Airport is located 14 km south of central Paris. The estimated journey time by various means of transport, is 30 to 35 minutes. The airport website gives the quickest and most economic route to go to/from the airport.

The Paris Régie Autonome des Transports Parisiens (RATP) website has a "Travelers" guide' which gives practical advice and tips to travel smoothly.

ARRIVING TO PARIS BY TRAIN

Paris has 6 major train stations in the city centre, each serving different regions of France and Europe. Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau "Paris je t'aime" gives a nice overview of all the stations in Paris and where they serve. Paris Gare du Nord also hosts Eurostar, which can get you from London to Paris in around 2 and a half hours.

Before booking your travel please consult with the Joint Planning Staff, as all supported travel must be pre-approved.

Accommodation

Participants of the 46th Session of the JSC are responsible for booking their own accommodation. We recommend booking accommodation near the conference venue in order to minimize travel to and from the Session.

UNESCO has provided a list of recommended hotels in the vicinity (.pdf).
You may wish to consult travel aggregators (e.g., booking.com, hotels.com, tripadvisor.com, FranceHotelGuide to scan the market in the vicinity of UNESCO Headquarters before deciding whether to book the hotel through that platform or with the hotel directly.

The Paris RATP website has practical information regarding getting around Paris, including routes, timetables, fares and where to purchase tickets.

Tourism

If you can extend your stay, the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau "Paris je t'aime" has lots of information about the many things to see and do in Paris.

Visas

To find out whether you require a short stay visa for France please consult the Schengen visa info website. They also provide a list of foreign nationals holding ordinary passports who are exempt from visa requirements.
