Early to Mid-Career Researchers (EMCR) refers to students, researchers, or practitioners in their early to middle-stage careers. For the 2-day EMCRs Symposium organized by WCRP during the Open Science Conference in Kigali, Rwanda, 2023, EMCRs refer to master's and PhD students, researchers, and practitioners within 15 years of the highest obtained degree (excluding parental and care leave).
Out of the success of the EMCR Symposium in the OSC, the EMCR Hub has been set up to serve as a central platform for promoting and enhancing the visibility of EMCR networks within the climate research community. It is designed to empower and support EMCRs globally by nurturing their potential and facilitating their career growth. By recognizing the pivotal role EMCRs play in advancing climate science, the WCRP actively involves them in core projects and working groups, providing opportunities for contribution and collaboration.
Financial support is available for EMCRs to participate in WCRP events, fostering networking and collaboration. Moreover, the initiative prioritizes regional and gender balance, particularly supporting EMCRs from developing and underrepresented countries. Through these efforts, the WCRP aims to cultivate a sustainable and inclusive climate research community for the benefit of future generations.
