GDIS Survey

We plan to have one or more regional GDIS pilot studies tentatively set for the period from October 1, 2015 to September 30, 2017.

The objectives of the pilots are:

  1. Establish Global Drought Monitor and Global Drought Outlook
  2. Data gathering during the pilot period for drought research
  3. Identify data and modeling gaps in current drought monitoring and forecast systems
  4. Establish partnership for long term drought related activities

The data gathering will be an important element for the pilots.

During that time, we hope to have in-situ data, satellite data, data assimilation products, and other model forecast data for drought monitoring and prediction. Both global and regional data sets are needed.

For prediction, we hope to have drought indices forecast out to at least 3 months.

The purpose of this survey is to give us some ideas of the availability of data to support the pilots and whether we need to solicit other contributions.
