The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will soon announce a Fellowship Program for early to mid-career scientists in Least Developed Countries working in strengthening climate research in their regions. The Fellowship will fund research in the areas pertaining to WCRP’s core projects and lighthouse activities, and the inaugural Fellowship will be open to applications from researchers in Africa, building on the WCRP Open Science Conference in Rwanda in 2023. More details on the Program will be available soon.
The approval of the new Fellowship Program was just one of the outcomes of the 45th Session meeting of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) in Lima, Peru, from 27 to 30 May 2024. A full report will be made available soon. The meeting was attended by the members of the JSC, leaders of the WCRP Core Projects and Lighthouse Activities and key partners, online with a relatively small in person component, and provided a platform to discuss and deliberate on the Programme’s agenda and way forward in the coming years.
The JSC meeting was held in parallel to the second meeting of ANDEX.
