The CLIVAR International Project Office hosted by the Ocean University of China, Qingdao, welcomes its new Director Dr Agus Santoso.
Agus Santoso is a climate scientist specialising in the dynamics of Indo-Pacific climate variability and change, with broad interest in global thermohaline circulation and climate modelling. Prior to joining the ICPO, he was a researcher with a PhD in physical oceanography based at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia. During the two decades in research, he has been involved in various institutions and programs including the UNSW Climate Change Research Centre, and the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, and the National Environmental Science Program. Agus served as one of the project leaders at the Centre for Southern Hemisphere Oceans Research in understanding the El Niño Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole, and their response to greenhouse warming. He served as member of the World Climate Research Programme CLIVAR Pacific Region Panel and is a current member of its working group on tropical Pacific decadal variability. He is also on journal editorial boards, including as an editor at the Journal of Climate.
