WCRP SPARC community's new report on carbon footprint reduction is now published!

A new carbon footprint study has been published by WCRP’s SPARC community following their multi-hub approach of the 7th General Assembly held during the last week of October 2022 in Qingdao, Reading and Boulder. The SPARC multi-hub approach is an initiative that consists of combining in-person and virtual meetings to reduce the carbon footprint of international conferences in the context of a transition to a low-carbon future. Findings of the study concluded that in this case, the multi-hub approach reduced the carbon footprint from travel by between a factor of 2.3 and 4.1 times the footprint when hosting the conference in a single location.
