A special issue of GEWEX newsletter GEWEX Quarterly on monsoons was released in late December 2020. It was coordinated with the CLIVAR/GEWEX Monsoons Panel, a complement to CLIVAR's special monsoons issue.
This issue highlights monsoons around the world and evaluates the challenges and progress in monsoons research, from improving diurnal precipitation for monsoon regions in global climate models to looking at different strategies for accurate simulation and forecasting of monsoon precipitation. There are also examinations of the characteristics of the North and South American and West African monsoon regimes, with a nod to the increase in temperature extremes in West Africa.
