Ken TAKAHASHI Guevara

Ken has a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences from the University of Washington, Seattle, specializing in large-scale tropical coupled ocean-atmosphere processes. As a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University/NOAA GFDL, he worked on the physics of global climate change. Back in his native Peru, his research was focused on the physics of El Niño, its regional impacts, and its prediction. As a member of the Peruvian National Commission for El Niño Study, he played a key role in establishing operational procedures, as well as in informing stakeholders, decision-makers, and the general population with respect to scientific issues.  He was the Director of the Peruvian National Meteorological and Hydrological Service - SENAMHI and the Permanent Representative of Peru with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as well as a member of the WMO Executive Council.  

He is currently Principal Scientific Researcher at the Geophysical Institute of Peru - IGP, where he is exploring the application of artificial intelligence techniques to operational weather and climate predictions, particularly focused on extreme events.
