Dr. Pang-chi Hsu was appointed as a member of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) starting 1 January 2025.

Dr. Pang-Chi Hsu is a renowned atmospheric scientist specializing in tropical intraseasonal oscillations, global monsoons, and subseasonal-to-seasonal prediction. She is a Professor at the Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) and holds the prestigious title of Distinguished Professor of Jiangsu Province, China. Dr. Hsu earned her Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from National Taiwan Normal University, where she also completed her undergraduate and master’s studies. Following her doctoral work, she undertook postdoctoral research at the International Pacific Research Center, University of Hawaii.

With over 120 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, Dr. Hsu’s research has significantly advanced understanding of climate variability, particularly the dynamics of the Madden-Julian Oscillation and monsoon systems. She has also contributed to developing extended-range prediction systems for rainfall, heatwaves, and typhoons in East Asia. In addition to her research, she serves as an editor for several prestigious journals, mentors graduate students, and leads impactful scientific projects.
