Professor Krishna AchutaRao was appointed as a member of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) starting 1 January 2025.

Krishna AchutaRao is a professor at the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences and Associate Faculty at the School of Public Policy, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Prior to joining IIT Delhi in 2007, he worked with the Program for Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison (PCMDI) at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, U.S.A.

Krishna was a member of the Scientific Steering Group of of WCRP's Climate and Ocean Variability, Predictability and Change (CLIVAR) Core Project from 2015 to 2019. He has also been a lead author on the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports from Working Group-I of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

His research has focused on using climate models to understand how earth’s climate is affected by natural as well as anthropogenic factors and how it will impact natural and human systems.  His interests include regional climate change, attribution of extreme events and long-term climate change, climate change risk assessment and adaptation to climate change.
